The Abuja Division of the Federal High Court has affirmed Asue Ighodalo as the appropriate governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State.
In a decision on suit CS/469/24, Justice James Omotosho held that Ighodalo was duly nominated at the PDP primaries on February 22, 2024, held in Benin City.
The court dismissed challenges against his nomination filed by his political rival and former deputy governor of Edo state, Philip Shaibu.
Ighodalo received 577 votes, defeating Shaibu and ten other aspirants during the primary. It remains unclear if Shaibu plans to appeal the decision.
Ighodalo, a prominent Lagos-based business lawyer and boardroom guru, has been widely recognized as the frontrunner in the gubernatorial election slated for September 2024.
