Federal lawmakers and their constituents have taken to the streets of Port Harcourt for a peaceful march in a show of solidarity with embattled Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
The rally started at the popular UTC junction and had in attendance Hon. Boma Goodhead, representing Asari Toru/Akuku Toru in the House of Representatives, and Hon. Awaji-Inombek Abiante, representing Andoni/Opobo/Nkoro.
POLITICS NIGERIA gathered that both lawmakers arrived early, drawing a growing crowd of supporters who carried banners and placards. They also chanted slogans in support of the Governor.
Many expressed concerns that Fubara was being unfairly targeted for his independent leadership, refusing to be swayed by external pressures.
The development follows a rift between Fubara and his predecessor, Governor Nyesom Wike.
Recall that 27 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly recently resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). A number of Fubara’s cabinet members have also thrown in their resignations.
