The Federal Government has appointed Nigerian music star Innocent “2Face” Idibia as the country’s National Fire Safety Ambassador.

The announcement was made on Friday in Abuja during the closing event of the 2025 National Fire Safety Week.

Controller General of the Federal Fire Service, Samuel Adeyemi, confirmed the appointment at the ceremony held at the Service Headquarters. He was represented by Deputy Controller General Aliyu Tambari.

Adeyemi said the government chose 2Face to help push a nationwide campaign on preventive safety and behavioural change.

He explained that the Service wants to break the widespread “It won’t happen to me” attitude among Nigerians.

This year’s Safety Week carried the theme: “Building a Culture of Fire Safety Across Nigeria: Overcoming the ‘Not My Portion’ Mentality.”

Throughout the week, officers held sensitisation programmes in schools, markets, motor parks and major business areas.

There were also roadshows, drills, and live demonstrations aimed at teaching people how to prevent and manage fire risks.

Adeyemi described the public engagement as impressive. He said Nigerians showed strong interest in learning more about fire prevention.

Awards and certificates were given to individuals and organisations that demonstrated outstanding commitment to safety compliance.
He commended 2Face Idibia for accepting the national assignment.

The CG noted that the artiste’s wide influence across the country would help drive the message deeper into communities.

“As a National Fire Safety Ambassador, we expect him to inspire a new generation to embrace a culture of safety,” he said.

Adeyemi also used the event to appreciate Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, civil society organisations, partner agencies, and the private sector for supporting the Service.

He encouraged Nigerians to replace negligence with caution and treat safety as a daily responsibility, not an occasional activity.

The Fire Service chief reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to better training, improved equipment and stronger collaboration with other security and emergency agencies.
