JUST IN: Former Ebonyi PDP Governorship Candidate Resigns From Party

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has lost its former governorship flagbearer in Ebonyi State. Chief Chukwuma Ifeanyi Odii, who represented the party in the 2023 general elections, has formally resigned his membership.

The resignation took effect on Thursday, 1st January, 2026. The development marks a major political move in Ebonyi State, especially given Odii’s role as the PDP’s standard-bearer in the last governorship election.

Odii communicated his decision through a resignation letter dated 1 January, 2026. The letter was addressed to the PDP Chairman of Amanator Ward, Isuachara, in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

In the letter, the former governorship candidate explained that his decision followed extensive consultations. He said he engaged his family and close associates before making up his mind to leave the party.

According to the letter:
“I write to officially inform you that, following wide consultation with my family, and close associates, I have taken a considered decision to resign my membership of the PDP with immediate effect.”

Odii also expressed appreciation to the party leadership and members. He acknowledged the opportunity given to him to contest the 2023 governorship election under the PDP platform.

He stated in the letter:
“I wish to sincerely appreciate the leadership and members of the Party for the opportunity and platform provided for me, which I utilized in contesting as a Governorship candidate during the 2023 general election.”

The former candidate further thanked party stakeholders for their support during his time in the PDP. He noted that he enjoyed cooperation and goodwill from members throughout his political engagement with the party.

“I remain grateful for the support, cooperation and goodwill extended to me throughout my engagement with the Party,” the letter read.

Odii concluded by formally notifying the party of his exit and thanked the leadership once again for their understanding.

“Please, accept this letter as my formal notice of my resignation. I thank you once again for the cooperation and understanding during my time in the Party.”

As of the time of filing this report, Odii has not disclosed his next political move or whether he plans to join another party.
