JUST IN: Former Ondo Governor is dead

Rear admiral Sunday Abiodun Olukoya (rtd) erstwhile military governor of Ondo State, South-West Nigeria, is dead.

POLITICS NIGERIA understands that he breathed his last today 24 August 2021 following a brief illness.

Abiodun was governor of the fused Ondo and Ekiti state in the 90s.

He took over from Commodore Olabode George who handed over to Chief Bamidele Olomilua. He was 72.

Family source said funeral arrangements will be announced later.

Olukoya was a Nigerian navy captain who served as Military Administrator of Ondo State from September 1990 to January 1992 during the military regime of General Ibrahim Babangida. He retired as a Rear Admiral.

In November 2009, he was among past governors of Ondo State who praised the achievements of Governor Olusegun Mimiko and charged him to ensure that his administration continues to develop the state.

As military administrator of Ondo State, the deceased was preceded by Bode George, and succeeded by Dele Olumilua.
