Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara met with the national leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Lagos on Monday.
POLITICS NIGERIA recalls that Dogara recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to the ruling APC a few weeks ago. He also met with President Muhammadu Buhari in Aso Rock shortly after his defection.
Nigeria’s Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, Bauchi State APC Chairman, Uba Ahmad Nana and Bauchi Central Senator, Halliru Dauda Jika accompanied Dogara to the meeting with Tinubu.
This development has also fuelled rumours that Dogara may indeed be seeking the vice presidential ticket of the party in 2023. Last month, the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), said that APC may have lured Dogara into APC, using the ‘propaganda’ of northern Christian VP to Tinubu.
The CUPP, in a statement by its spokesman, Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere said: “I hope they have not used the propaganda of northern Christian VP to Tinubu to lure my very good friend to the APC party that might not survive the upcoming intraparty 2023 crisis.
“PDP governor of Bauchi treated Dogara bad and sidelined him despite the game-changer vote from Dogaras Tafa Balewa federal constituency but joining the fractured APC with a weak leader, who is already losing respect among his party men may hang his political survival in the balance. We will be watching how all these play out.”
