JUST IN: Four Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists killed as troops repel attack in Borno

Wednesday night ended in disappointment for Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists as four of the insurgents were killed while several others were injured when they attempted to attack Nigerian military position in Banki town, Borno state, Northeast region.

POLITICS NIGERIA learnt that the troops who got an intelligence report about the terrorists’ infiltration repelled their attack, and eliminated four.

Boko Haram’s insurgency has threatened Nigeria’s territorial integrity and triggered a humanitarian crisis.

Borno state is at the centre of the Islamist insurgency, which has spilled into neighbouring Chad and Cameroon and has left about 300,000 people dead and millions dependent on aid, the United Nations (UN) says.

ISWAP is an offshoot of the Boko Haram insurgent group that has been fighting against the Nigerian armed forces for over a decade. The two militant groups later turned on each other.
