A Tarco Airline B737-300 Aircraft carrying 131 Nigerian nationals has touched down at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the evacuees, consisting of 124 adults and seven infants, had departed from Port Sudan International Airport.

The evacuation follows the ongoing armed conflict in Sudan, which began on April 15.

Rival factions of the North African nation’s military government have clashed in western Sudan, Khartoum, and the Darfur region. The violence has claimed the lives of hundreds and injured thousands.

The Nigerian government had promised to facilitate the safe return of its citizens, and after nearly two weeks, they made good on that promise. The evacuees were transported out of Sudan by buses and then airlifted back to Nigeria by the government.
