Kautal Hore, a Fulani socio-cultural group, says it would set up a football association for nomadic children in Jigawa State, northwest state.
The State Chairman of the association, Alhaji Umar Dubantu, disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in Dutse on Monday.
According to him, the establishment of the association for the nomads will motivate and encourage the youth among them to actively partake in sporting activities.
“There are many talented Fulani players in the state and these children are not only good at playing football but other sports. However, no attempt is being made to discover them,” the chairman said.
Furthermore, he pointed out that the gesture would socially lead to the inclusion of the Fulani youth in all aspects of life, like their counterparts across Nigeria.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Fulani people are one of the largest ethnic groups in the Sahel and West Africa, widely dispersed across the region.
Inhabiting many countries, they live mainly in West Africa and northern parts of Central Africa but also in South Sudan, Darfur, Eritrea, and regions near the Red Sea coast. The approximate number of Fulani people is unknown due to clashing definitions regarding their ethnicity; various estimates put the figure between and 69.2 million worldwide.
