A police officer attached to Zone 9 Headquarters of the Nigeria Police has slumped and died while eating in Umuahia, Abia State’s capital city.
The late officer, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, was said to have slumped at an eatery within the command premises in the city on Thursday, March 13.
It was gathered that the DSP who had just returned from an investigative operation with members of his team went to eat before resuming his duties when the incident happened.
Sources present at the location said he started behaving in some kind of strange manner and subsequently collapsed before passing out.
Immediately after the officer collapsed, his colleagues where said to have rushed him to the clinic at the Central Police Station on Bende Road, Umuahia North Local Government Area.
Discovering that no medical personnel was on duty at the clinic, they quickly moved him to the Federal Medical Center (FMC), Umuahia, where he was confirmed dead.
His body has since been deposited at the morgue in FMC.
However, the late officer’s command is yet to release an official statement regarding the unfortunate incident.
