Electricity Tariff Hike: FG Pledges Improved Power Supply From July

The President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led government has promised Nigerians that it would improve power supply across the country amid a planned electricity tariff hike scheduled to commence on July 1, 2023.

Temitope Fashedemi, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Power, made the disclosure on Thursday.

Chinwe Udouwem, the ministry’s spokesperson, in a statement, revealed that Fashedemi made the declaration when the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Energy, Olu Verheijen, visited the Ministry.

“We are hopeful that you will identify some of the issues confronting the sector as technical directors and heads of agencies under the ministry brief,” Fashedemi said.

Reacting, Verheijen pointed out that the power was critical to the growth and productivity of nations noting that reforms in the sector would bring about the much-desired positive impact.

She emphasised the need for synergy between stakeholders in the power sector and a holistic approach to achieving a lasting solution.

According to the National Bureau of Statistics, Nigeria’s power supply increased to 5852-gigawatt hours in the first quarter of 2023.
