Embattled national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Adams Oshiomole has commented on the resignation of his successor and Edo state governor, Godwin Obaseki from the party.
POLITICS NIGERIA recalls that Obaseki and Oshiomole have been at loggerheads for some time now over the former’s second term ambition. The feud reportedly led to Obaseki’s disqualification from contesting the party’s Guber primaries scheduled for June 22.
Speaking to AIT on the development, Oshiomole simply described Obaseki’s exit as “Good Riddance”. In his words;
“That is his right. You know there is no compulsory membership. A political party is a voluntary association, If you want to stay, you stay, if you have reason to leave, you leave. I think he has exercised that right. Democratic right to belong or to withdraw. Afterall he joined us only 2016 at the eve of his own election, so leaving the APC is, from our own point of view, Good Riddance to Bad Rubbish.”
“If you’re in Edo, ask Edo people, they didn’t even know him. You know I have not been talking because he is a member of our party, I cannot run down my party but the moment he resigned now we can now engage him on all the half-truths, disinformation and etcetera.”
“The issue of his disqualification has to do with the forgery with(sic) his certificate. Now when you forge certificate as we have seen recently, particularly in Bayelsa where we won an election and on account of irregularities in the certificate, we lost at the supreme court level. Only a foolish political party will not now pay due attention to meticulously screen those who wish to contest election on your platform. That is the issue.”
