The Ogun State Government has announced the appointment of 1,200 political assistants to Boost Grassroots Participation.
In a statement on Thursday, the Special Adviser on Media and Strategy to Governor Dapo Abiodun, Hon. Kayode Akinmade, said the initiative was designed to strengthen governance at the grassroots and broaden civic engagement in all 236 wards of the state.
According to him, the appointments, which translate to five political assistants per ward, are aimed at ensuring closer interaction between the government and the people.
“The newly appointed political assistants are expected to support the delivery of democratic dividends, articulate the needs of their wards, and communicate these needs to the state government.
“They will also provide accurate feedback from government to the grassroots and vice versa,” Akinmade explained.
He added that the development was in line with Governor Abiodun’s campaign promise to run an all-inclusive administration that prioritises the input of citizens in shaping policies and programmes.
The state government urged the appointees to make meaningful contributions to the growth and development of their wards, local governments, and Ogun State as a whole.
