Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has invited heads of various communities, groups, and institutions for a crucial town hall meeting scheduled for Saturday.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the announcement was made by Professor Chidiebere Onyia, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), through an official statement.
The meeting has been arranged in light of the recent cancellation of the sit-at-home order by the state government, which officially went into effect on June 5.
Governor Mbah had prohibited the continuation of the sit-at-home, a measure enforced by a faction of the banned IPOB.
Recall that just four days ago, residents of Enugu State defiantly disregarded the directives of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) regarding the compulsory sit-at-home order on Mondays. Consequently, roads, schools, banks, markets, and other public places remained deserted.
According to the statement, the forthcoming town hall meeting serves as a follow-up to the governor’s earlier consultations with various groups aimed at resolving the sit-at-home situation within the state.
The meeting is scheduled to take place at the Banquet Hall, Old Government Lodge, starting at 10:30 a.m.
A comprehensive list of invitees has been provided, encompassing religious leaders, traditional rulers, leaders of civil society organisations, heads of transport unions, officials from banking and financial institutions, leaders of security agencies, heads of neighbourhood watch and forest guard groups, vice-chancellors, rectors, and provosts of tertiary institutions in the state. Market union leaders, members of the hotel owners union, state leaders of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, and the National Union of Local Government Employees have also been invited.
In addition, leaders of the Association of Enugu town unions, chairpersons of the Inter-Party Advisory Council, Conference of Political Parties, leaders of non-indigene groups, leaders of motor parks, proprietors of private schools, representatives of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, principals of secondary schools, heads of radio, television, and other media organisations, as well as student leaders in tertiary institutions, have received invitations to participate in the important gathering.
