Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has carried out a cabinet reshuffle that led to the appointment of a new Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice.

As part of the changes, the governor reassigned Christopher Green from the Ministry of Sports to the Ministry of Justice.

He will now serve as Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, while still retaining oversight of the Sports Ministry until a new commissioner is appointed.

The position became vacant after the exit of the former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dagogo Iboroma, SAN.

His removal followed the recent Supreme Court judgment that brought a legal conclusion to the political crisis that has affected governance in Rivers State.

The apex court ruling nullified the appointments of commissioners who were screened and confirmed by the Victor Oko-Jumbo-led three-member House of Assembly.

The judgment effectively rendered several cabinet positions vacant and disrupted the structure of the State Executive Council.

Developments since the ruling have deepened tensions between the executive arm and the House of Assembly. This situation has reportedly made it difficult for the governor to present fresh nominees for legislative screening and confirmation.

As a result, the governor opted for internal restructuring within the cabinet. Existing commissioners were reassigned to ensure continuity in governance and avoid administrative gaps in key ministries.

The reshuffle was officially confirmed in a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Communications, Dr Honour Sirawoo.

The statement clarified that Christopher Green will manage both the Justice and Sports portfolios on an interim basis.

Moreover, the state government said the decision was taken in the interest of stability and effective administration while efforts continue to resolve outstanding political and legislative issues.
