Some gunmen have attacked the Oba Police Divisional Headquarters in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State, killing one police corporal.
The gunmen were said to have launched the attack in the early hours of Tuesday, September 2.
Sources privy to the incidents said a police officer was killed while several other individuals sustained various degrees of injuries.
A source also noted that the gunmen also attacked the Oba Civic Centre.
Confining the incident, the spokesperson for the Anambra Police Command, Tochukwu Ikenga said a joint security force is currently investigating the the attack.
According to Ikenga, the gunmen shot sporadically into the air and drew explosives causing a fire outbreak in some offices and the civic centre.
He added, “Unfortunately, a police corporal who was fatally wounded paid the supreme price, while the fire was put out with the help of other police officers on duty and the Joint Security responding team.
Ikenga also said that the state’s commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, condemned the attack by the gunmen.
The CP also described the invasion of security facilities and hostility towards security agents as an attack on the soul of a nation.
He vowed to bring those behind the unholy act to book.
