Gunmen attacked a checkpoint near Oshiri police station in Onisha LGA of Ebonyi state on Wednesday, May 24, killing three police officers.
Politics Nigeria gathered that the Ebonyi police spokesperson, Onome Onovwakpoyeya, in a statement on Thursday, said two of the gunmen behind the attack were killed.
The police spokesperson said the officers were on stop and search duty when they were attacked.
According to her: “Today being 24/05/2023 at about 0830hrs, operatives of the command on stop and search duty at Oshiri Division were attacked by armed hoodlums.
“Sadly, three police men list their lives, one was injured and is currently receiving treatment at a hospital.
“Tactical teams were immediately started to the area to go after the hoodlums.
“Consequently, two of the hoodlums were neutralized and others escaped with various degrees of bullet wounds.
“The Commissioner of Police, Ebonyi state command, CP Faleye. S Olayele, appeals to the members of the public especially hospitals and clinics, to report anyone with bullet wounds or suspicious character in order to apprehend those still at large.”
The incident comes less than 48 hours after police officers, also conducting a stop and search, were attacked in the state.
