JUST IN: Gunmen hack Amotekun official to death in Osun

An official of the Osun Security Network Agency, also known as ‘Amotekun Corps has been hacked to death by some yet-to-be-identified gunmen.

Lamidi Abiodun was said to have been killed on Wednesday around the Papa boundary axis in the Iwo area of Osun state.

He was hacked to death after some members of Amotekun and the Osun chapter of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria were alerted about an invasion and attack on farmers in the area.

The spokesperson for the Amotekun Corps, Yusuf Abbas said the security operatives were attacked by the gunmen and immediately got into the farmland in the area.

According to Abbas, the gunmen first shot Abiodun but the bullets did not penetrate his body.

He added that after the bullets failed to kill the officer, the gunmen resorted to hacking him with a machete.

“During the confrontation, Mr Abiodun was attacked. Although initial gunfire did not penetrate his body, he was brutally assaulted with a machete to the head and died instantly at the scene.

“While most of the operatives managed to escape the ambush, one member of the VGN identified as Nurudeen Alowonle remains unaccounted for as of the time of this report and one Alex Sola was shot in the leg,” Abbas noted.

Lamenting his killing, Abbas said the incident has been formerly reported to the police in Iwo while Abiodun’s body deposited in a morgue.

He also assured that the suspected criminals would be arrested and made to face justice.
