JUST IN: Gunmen invade Benue school as students write WAEC

Some gunmen invaded the Government Secondary School, Odugbo in Benue State while students were sitting for their Senior Secondary School West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) exams.

Zagazola Makama, a counter-terrorism expert said the gunmen invaded the school at about 1.20 pm on Thursday, May 29, 2025.

Makama said the gunmen, suspected to be armed herdsmen shot sporadically into the air, creating fear among the students and staff of the school.

Sources privy to the incident said during the incident, an 80-man patrol team of the Benue State Civilian Joint Task Force (PMF) Odugbo arrived at the scene and successfully repelled the gunmen.

It was gathered that the attackers who were overpowered by the security forces fled into a nearby bush.

According to Makama, no casualty was recorded during the attack by the suspected herdsmen.

He also said that operatives of the patrol team have continued to comb the school environment and surrounding bushes in an effort to track the attackers.

Residents of the community and students of the school have also been urged to remain calm.
