JUST IN: High Court Postpones Kano Gov’t Suit Against Ado Bayero, 4 Other Deposed Emirs

A Kano State High Court presided over by Justice Amina Adamu Aliyu has adjourned a case filed by the Kano State Government seeking to restrain Aminu Ado Bayero and four other deposed emirs from presenting themselves as emirs.

The case has been postponed until July 2nd.

The state government filed the suit against Bayero, the deposed emir of Kano, and four other deposed emirs of Bichi, Rano, Gaya, and Karaye.

Recall that a Federal High Court had set aside all steps taken by the Kano State Government to repeal the Kano Emirates Council Law (2019), which split the Kano Emirates into five, with First Class Emirs.

The court ordered all parties to maintain the status quo, creating an impasse.

Despite this, the Kano State Government claims the ruling validated the reinstatement of Sanusi Lamido as Emir.
