Senator Ifeanyi Ubah has reacted to his victory at the supreme court after appeals challenging the validity of his election as a senator were dismissed on Tuesday.
Obinna Uzoh, Anani Cletus and Chris Uba all filed appeals against Ubah’s emergence as Senator, Anambra South which were quashed by the Apex court.
Speaking on his victory, Ubah stated; “To God be the glory, the Supreme Court Abuja today dismissed Obinna Uzoh, Anani Cletus and Chris Uba’s appeals in a unanimous Judgement delivered by a 5-man panel led by Justice Sylvester Nwguta.”
“The appeals of Obinna Uzoh, Chris Ubah and Anani Cletus were dismissed on the grounds that the FCT High court lacked territorial jurisdiction to entertain the suit ab-initio and other points raised. According to the judgement, the cause of action ought to arise from Anambra by virtue of the fact that the primary election was conducted in Anambra State as clearly stipulated by section 89 of the Electoral Act. Consequently, pursuant to the application to withdraw the suits by the appellant’s counsel, the Supreme Court withdrew and dismissed the Appeals in its entirety.”
“I want to thank the judiciary for rising up to its solemn responsibility of ensuring that justice has once again prevailed without fear of favour or prejudice as today’s judgement is indeed a clear indication that the third arm of government is the last hope of the common man. This is indeed a victory for democracy, Anambra South and Nigeria at large.”
“I want to dedicate this victory to the almighty God and my friends, well-wishers and supporters who stood firmly with me through the course of this legal tussles. The period of politicking and litigations is finally over, now is the time to collectively work for the progress of Anambra South. There is a need to rise above the flaming divides of partisan politics to do what is best for our constituents. I want to reiterate my commitment to the noble path of growth, progress and development as I promise not to disappoint your patience, trust and commitment to my vision.”
“Today on the floor of the Senate, I also presented important information alerting the leadership of the Senate of the charges imposed on imported pharmaceutical products by the Nigerian Customs Service as against the waiver granted by the Federal Government, thereby inflicting untold hardship on Nigerians in this difficult time. Subsequently, I was given express approval to present this issue comprehensively on the floor of the Senate in the next plenary session.”
“Finally, I retired home to celebrate another special moment in my life; the day my soulmate, my biggest strength and the missing piece of my puzzle was brought into this world. A day in which I think about all of our memories, all the milestones and obstacles we defeated together and all the beautiful moments we have created side by side.”
“As I glance through our youthful pictures, the globetrotting and beautiful places we already visited before my 25th birthday and her 23rd birthday in the days of our youthful beginnings when this bond started, I can only thank God.”
