JUST IN: Igboho releases statement as court session holds Wednesday

Yoruba Nation lead agitator, Sunday Adeyemo (Sunday Igboho), on Tuesday called on all his supporters to “honour” him and be present at the Court of Appeal Ibadan, Oyo State, when his suit with the Department of State Services (DSS) resumes on Wednesday.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Igboho is in a legal battle with the DSS over destruction of his properties and loss of lives at his residence when security operatives raided his home on July 1, 2021.

The DSS is contesting a N20 billion fine, saying paying the damages awarded against it by an Oyo State High Court, sitting in Ibadan, to Igboho will affect the Nigerian economy.

Recall that the DSS had invaded Igboho’s house in Ibadan, killing two of his aides, while 12 others were arrested.

The 49-year-old separatist leader, who escaped the bloody raid, was declared wanted for allegedly stockpiling arms to destabilise Nigeria.

Igboho was arrested in Cotonou, Benin Republic, while trying to flee to Germany.

He was detained in a prison in Benin Republic but was released in March 2022 to get medical attention on the condition that he would not leave the French-speaking country.
