JUST IN: INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu Meets with RECs in Abuja [VIDEO]

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu, is in a meeting with all the Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that this meeting is the first post-election meeting since the conclusion of the 2023 General Elections.

The session aims to review the general elections held in February and discuss the upcoming off-season governorship elections scheduled for November in Kogi and Imo states.

It is worth recalling that INEC had previously announced its plan to conduct a comprehensive post-election review for the recently concluded polls, which will span from July 4 to August 5. The process will commence with this meeting of the RECs and conclude with a retreat organised by the commission.

Since 2011, INEC has been organising these review sessions following every general election. This exercise aims to thoroughly examine all aspects of the electoral activities before, during, and after the elections.

Notably, the presidential election, held on February 25, resulted in the declaration of Bola Tinubu from the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner.

However, the declaration is currently being challenged in court by Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
