JUST IN: INEC Closes Defence in Peter Obi-LP Petition against Tinubu’s Victory

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) concluded its defence on Tuesday in the petition filed by Peter Obi and the Labour Party (LP) before the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT) for the 2023 election.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that during the proceedings, INEC’s legal representative, Abubakar Mahmoud (SAN), presented a single witness, Dr. Lawrence Bayode, who serves as Deputy Director in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Department of INEC.

Under cross-examination, the witness stated that even if blurry documents were downloaded from IREV, it would not impact the physical results as recorded in Forms EC8As, which remain clear and legible.

Bayode further clarified that the images of Forms EC8A, captured with BVAS and transmitted to IREv, hold no relevance in the result collation process.

The witness assured the court that the technical glitch during the previous presidential election did not hinder the proper collation of the results.

Following the witness’s testimony, the INEC lawyer announced the conclusion of the first respondent’s case.
