JUST IN: John Bonzena Secures Reelection as Taraba Speaker

John Bonzena has been reelected as the Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly for the 10th assembly.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that this development follows the dissolution of the ninth assembly and the official inauguration of the new assembly in the chamber.

Bonzena’s nomination for the prestigious position was put forward by Abel Peter, the representative of Mbamga Constituency, and was seconded by Angye Josiah, the member representing Wukari II.

Hamman-Adama Abdullahi, who previously served as the deputy speaker in the ninth assembly, was also reelected to continue his role in the 10th assembly.

The members of the assembly acknowledged his experience and dedication.

With only four members returning from the previous assembly, most of the 24-member Taraba assembly consists of newcomers.

Reflecting on the accomplishments of the ninth assembly, Speaker Bonzena highlighted the successful passage of 40 bills into law.

Bonzena pledged to maintain an open-door policy, encouraging constructive contributions from all members for the success of the 10th assembly.

However, he acknowledged the challenges facing the house, including inadequate infrastructure, lack of office accommodation, and insufficient training for legislators and staff.
