The Kano State House of Assembly has passed a supplementary budget of N58 billion, barely four months after Governor Abba Yusuf assumed office.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the budget, which was passed on Monday, is expected to accelerate the execution of priority projects in the state.
The spokesperson for the House of Assembly, Uba Abdullahi, said 92 per cent of the supplementary appropriation would be expended on capital expenditures, while eight per cent would be for recurrent expenditures.
“The House has passed the bill into law to pave the way for the execution of more meaningful projects across the state by the executive governor,” Mr Abdullahi said, adding, “The size of the supplementary budget is over N58 billion.”
However, the lawmakers did not release the details of the budget, saying it was a break with the tradition of the disclosure of the breakdowns of the state’s budgets under previous administrations.
The passage of the supplementary budget brings the total budget for Kano State in 2023 to N326 billion.
The development comes against the backdrop of the recent sacking of Governor Yusuf by the Kano Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, which declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nadir Gawuna, the winner of the 18 March election.
