The Kogi State House of Assembly has approved a six-month extension for the Transition Committee Chairmen in the state.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the decision was made during the house plenary session on Friday.
Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo had earlier sent a letter to the house, citing financial constraints and a high wage bill as reasons why local government elections cannot be held at this time.
“In the next six months, it will be interesting at the Local Government level as there will be mostly submission of reports to the Assembly. The Chairmen henceforth should take note of this” he said.
The tenure of the 21 Transition Committee Chairmen was set to expire on July 8, 2024, but will now end on January 8, 2025, when local government elections are expected to take place.
