The eagerly awaited Lagos State Red Line Rail project is set to be officially commissioned by President Bola Tinubu on February 29.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu made the announcement today during the ‘Lagos Market Trader Money’ event, where 15,000 beneficiaries were present.
Governor Sanwo-Olu said the groundbreaking project, managed by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), will seamlessly connect Oyingbo to Agbado, utilizing the federal government’s Lagos-Ibadan rail line.
The 27-kilometer rail corridor is expected to revolutionize daily commuting, providing a rapid and efficient transportation option for over 500,000 passengers daily.
The Red Line, a vision initiated by the Tinubu administration in 2003 with the Lagos light rail network, comprises eight strategically located stations: Agbado, Iju, Agege, Ikeja, Oshodi, Mushin, Yaba, and terminating at Oyingbo.
The project aims to address traffic congestion, enhance connectivity between different parts of the city, and contribute to environmental sustainability by reducing pollution.
”The upcoming commissioning is a milestone for Lagosians, marking a new era of modern and efficient public transportation,” Sanwo-Olu stated
