JUST IN: Lawyer punches, beats up Defense Counsel in Gombe Court [PHOTOS]

Two Lawyers have gone viral on Social Media for reportedly exchanging punches with each order in Court in the presence of a Magistrate.

POLITICS NIGERIA gathered that the two lawyers involved are John Yuwa Esq and Mukna’an Kingsley Guruyen.

An eyewitness, Daniel Agabi Esq disclosed that Mr. Guruyen was the aggressor.

He wrote; “I have the true facts of what transpired in the matter; as the lawyer in the bloodstained shirt (Yuwa) is my colleague in the office.”

“Rather, the lawyer in the bloodstained shirt was on his feet making his submissions when the opposing Counsel, the aggressor, attacked him and gave him a blow resulting to the severe injuries as shown in the picture.”

“The aggrieved Counsel, whose picture in shown on the post did not even retaliate, but called police who came to the scene and arrested the aggressor.”

“I assure everyone who cares to know that the true picture of what transpired will soon be made public. As it stands, we are taking the appropriate steps to put the record straight.”

Further checks by POLITICS NIGERIA reveals that the incident occurred on Thursday, 23rd September 2021 at the Chief Magistrate Court in Gombe, Gombe state.

Both lawyers were in court for a criminal case with File No. CMCIII/GM/42/2017 between one Hajiya Ladi Baba Umar V Bilyaminu Shehu, Yuwa was the defence Counsel while Guruyen was the prosecuting counsel.

Trouble started while Yuwa attempted to register an objection to a statement made by the Prosecuting counsel. Not happy with Yuwa’s line of response, Guruyen lunged and punched him on the mouth.

Police officers in the court premises quickly arrested Guruyen and took him to the state police command.

POLITICS NIGERIA learned that Yuwa has since filed a petition to the Nigerian Bar Association for action on the matter.

  1. This is the result of a failed state….. nobody is Happy with the situation of things….so they tend to pass it out on other’s.

  2. Government need to establish different jobs to the youths that can handle them satisfied their own desire
