JUST IN: Machine gun recovered as police arrests 2 gunrunners in Katsina

Two gunrunners have been arrested along the Ingawa–Karkarku village road in Katsina State, the police have said.

Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer in a statement said the suspects – 25-year-old Abdussalam Muhammed, and 23-year-old Aminu Mamman – were arrested at about 4:35 am on Monday.

According to Adejobi, a General Purpose Machine Gun, alongside more than 1,200 rounds of live ammunition were recovered from the suspects.

He said Muhammed and Mamman, both residents of Baure in Safana Local Government Area of Katsina, were intercepted along the Ingawa–Karkarku village road.

They were arrested while transporting the weapons in a blue Volkswagen Golf car with registration number RSH-528 BV.

The FPRO added that the arms recovered from the suspects were concealed in the vehicle.

Details of the recovery made include one (1) General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG), 1,063 rounds of 7.62x39mm AK-47 ammunition, and 232 rounds of 7.62x69mm PKT ammunition.

He added that the weapons were suspected of being moved to some criminal elements by the suspects.

He also stated that the Inspector General of Police has commended the officers for such a feat Ejike urging members of the force to sustain their efforts in stomping out organised crime from society.

“The suspects are currently in custody, and an in-depth investigation is ongoing to uncover the source, destination network, and possible affiliations of the recovered arms,” Adejobi said.
