JUST IN: Many Feared Dead, Trapped in Kano Demolished Buildings

The Kano State Police Command has confirmed that an unconfirmed number of scavengers have been trapped at two demolition sites in the state on Thursday.

The state’s Police spokesperson, Abdullah Haruna Kiyawa, stated this in a statement made available to journalists.

Politics Nigeria gathered that one hundred and six (106) suspected scavengers were arrested for criminal offenses of trespass, mischief and theft.

Abdullah noted that the Police Command had cautioned scavengers to avoid the areas that were affected by the demolition which they disregarded.

He further confirmed that the scavengers were eventually trapped in the demolished buildings at Duala Hotel and Eid Praying Ground at around 2.30 pm.

Abdullah further stated that the Commissioner of Police also joined rescue workers from the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and State Government officials where they were jointly briefed on some casualties with a high chance of fatality.

The Police spokesperson sent condolence messages to the families of the deceased and wished those injured in the incidents a speedy recovery.

He advised parents and community leaders to caution their wards against rushing to demolition sites to avoid injury or loss of lives.
