President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has arrived at the Amazone Square in Cotonou, the venue of the 63rd anniversary of the Republic of Benin.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Tinubu’s arrival was greeted with cheers from the crowd as he stepped off his motorcade.
He is reportedly accompanied by six governors: Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq (Kwara), Nasir Idris (Kebbi), and Mohammed Umar Bago (Niger).
The president’s spokesman, Dele Alake, said in a statement on Monday that Tinubu would be attending a series of events to mark the independence anniversary, including a military parade and a reception hosted by the Benin government.
“The president will also hold bilateral talks with President Talon on ways to strengthen relations between Nigeria and Benin Republic,” Alake said.
