Ismaila Mustapha, popularly known as Mompha, has denied the rumours of his re-arrest and subsequent arraignment by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on charges of money laundering amounting to N6 billion.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that he took to his verified Instagram page on Friday, and made a live video to address the allegations, asserting that he had not been arrested.
In a bid to substantiate his claim, the Instagram celebrity played and danced to Timaya’s hit song “Sweet Us,” effectively showcasing his freedom and refuting the erroneous reports of his capture by the EFCC.
Additionally, Mompha released a statement titled “Idan was not arrested by EFCC; 33BG is not in EFCC custody,” urging the EFCC to refrain from engaging in media trials. He emphasized that he is not in the commission’s custody and would be present in court on July 3, 2023.
He said, “The recent publications in Nigerian media platforms suggesting that I, Mompha, was rearrested by the EFCC are false. I want to use this opportunity to once again expose the corrupt and misleading actions of the commission. I have neither been rearrested nor am I currently in their custody,” Mompha declared.
He further criticized the EFCC for what he perceived as a witch hunt, using his name to gain publicity and generate trends. Mompha called on the commission to abandon such baseless media trials and cease misleading the public through the press.
