JUST IN: Ex-Nasarawa Deputy Gov regains freedom

Professor Onje Gye-Wado, a former Nasarawa State deputy governor who was abducted from his country home on Thursday night, has been released after his kidnappers were paid a ransom of N4 million.

POLITICS NIGERIA had reported that the professor of law was kidnapped from his home in Rinza, near Wamba, the headquarters of Wamba local government area of the state.

Initially, the kidnappers had demanded a ransom of N70 million, but after negotiations, the family was able to bring it down to N2 million and later N3.5 million. Eventually, they paid N4 million before the professor was released on Sunday. According to a family source, the kidnappers collected the ransom near Mada Hills Secondary School in Akwanga, and recharge cards was also provided.

Professor Gye-Wado was reportedly taken back to the Palace of the paramount ruler of Wamba, Oriye Rindre, Justice Lawal Musa Nagogo, upon his release.

Also, Dogo Shamma, a former NUJ chairman and former commissioner of information in the state, confirmed the release of the professor.
