JUST IN: Navy buries commander who died rescuing 59 persons

The Nigerian Navy on Wednesday, August 28, laid to rest the commander who died while trying to rescue 59 persons from the ill-fated vessel, MV AMBIKA 4.

Lieutenant Commander Gideon Gwaza, died on July 30, during the rescue operation which took place in Bonny, Rivers State.

Gwaza was buried at the National Military Cemetery in Abuja with families, friends and associates present.

Prior to his death, Gwaza was the Base Operations Officer of the Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base in Bonny.

The late office led the operation that saw the rescue of 59 persons from the MV AMBIKA 4, which was on the brink of sinking while operating at the Okpobo Field, near the Okpobo River.
