A new terrorist group known as Mahmuda has emerged from the Duruma community in Baruten Local Government Area, Kwara State.
According to Sahara Reporters, the new group has already launched an attack on the community leaving three people dead.
The report said that the terrorists invaded Duruma village in the early hours of Tuesday, June 3, 2025.
According to sources, areas like Kemaanji, Tenebo, Baabete, Nuku, and Nanu in the Kaiama Local Government Area were affected.
The terrorists also attacked villages in Yashikira District, Baruten LGA.
In addition to the attacks launched by the terrorists in Kwara, they invaded Babana and Wawa Districts in Borgu LGA, Niger State.
Some of the residents who are privy to the incidents said insecurity has become a major source of concern for them.
According to the sources, residents have fled their homes in a bid to evade the attacks by the terrorists.
One of the sources, a resident of Kemanji, said their community is currently under the control of the new terrorist group.
He also noted that community members – both the rich and the poor – are all scared of the presence of the terrorists.
Another resident said the terrorists have resided in the forests around the communities without any incidents but were spurred to attack the residents after a military raid in the location.
He said, “They started this attack in Ramadan when the Nigerian Army attacked them and killed some of their members.
“This is why they started attacking us. And the Army has left us, and they have not come back since that time.”
