The Nigerian High Commission in London has alerted Nigerians in the United Kingdom to be extra vigilant as anti-immigrant riots in the country escalate.
In a statement posted on X, the commission urged Nigerians to stay away from the protests and avoid large gatherings.
Numbers were also provided for Nigerians to reach out to the commission for any emergency.
”The high commission will strive to keep the Nigerian community in the UK informed of any development as the situation unfolds,” part of the statement read.
Far-right protesters in the UK have attacked hotels housing asylum seekers after false rumours accusing a Muslim immigrant of the Southport stabbings that killed three children triggered anti-immigrant protests across the country.
More than 90 people were arrested after demonstrations organised by far-right groups descended into riots in UK towns and cities on Saturday.
There was unrest in Hull, Liverpool, Bristol, Manchester, Stoke-on-Trent, Blackpool and Belfast, with missiles thrown, shops looted and police attacked in some places.
