Soldiers conducting Exercise Golden Dawn in the South East have eliminated a member of the Biafran National Guard, responsible for an attack on troops at Amaekpu, Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State.
The Director, Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, made this known in a statement on Friday.
According to Nwachukwu, the assailants, who were heavily armed and conveyed in several vehicles opened fire on troops, but were met with stiff resistance.
Nwachukwu said one gunman was neutralized, while others abandoned their vehicles and fled with gunshot wounds.
He also revealed that a pump action gun was recovered.
“While the criminals withdrew, having been overwhelmed, they were promptly intercepted at Eda by troops of Forward Operating Base Ohaozara in Ebonyi State.
“The troops recovered additional three vehicles and apprehended one of the gunmen,”.
