JUST IN: Nigerian man declared wanted for killing girlfriend in Lagos arrested in Sierra Leone

A real estate agent, Nnanyereugo Benjamin Best, who was declared wanted by the Lagos state police command on October 10, 2023, for allegedly killing a student of Lead City University, Ibadan, on July 13, 2023, has been arrested in Sierra Leone.

Best had been accused of killing 21-year-old Augusta Onuwabhagbe Osedion during an argument which led to her stabbing on July 13, 2023, in his Oral Estate, Ajah home.

After allegedly committing the dastardly act, the suspect reportedly obtained a Sierra Leonean passport and changed his name to Kanu Princeton Samuel before fleeing Nigeria on July 28.

The photo of the suspect had been posted on all social media platforms, making it easy for him to be identified. A Good Samaritan in Sierra Leone was said to have identified him and contacted the victim’s mother through social media.

The mother contacted her lawyer, Mr Femi Falana (SAN), who assisted the family in contacting the Sierra Leonean police authorities.

When it was confirmed that he had fled the country, the Lagos Police commissioner, Mr Idowu Ohonbunwa, directed the state police command to declare him wanted. Best was declared wanted on October 10, 2023.

“The Sierra Leonean police immediately commenced a search for Best Nnanyereugo Benjamin. The deceased’s mother dispatched a family member to Freetown who could work with the police.

“The suspect was arrested on Friday, October 20, at a club in Freetown and is currently being detained to await extradition,” said a government official.
