JUST IN: Super Falcons roundly defeats New Zealand to continue winning streak

In a thrilling encounter at the Mardan Sports Complex on Tuesday afternoon, the Nigerian senior women’s team, the Super Falcons, clinched a resounding victory against New Zealand in an international friendly match.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the win marked the Falcons’ third consecutive victory in 2023.

The Falcons’ victory was secured through a combination of impressive teamwork and individual talent. Onome Ebi’s first-half goal and two second-half goals from Jennifer Onyi Echegini and Desire Oparanozie were enough to seal the win for the Falcons.

This game marks the Falcons’ last pre-World Cup friendly, barring any last-minute arrangement, before the Women’s World Cup, which is set to hold in New Zealand and Australia from July 20 to August 20.

The Falcons had previously defeated Haiti 2-1 at the Emirhan Sports Centre last Friday, with goals from Esther Okoronkwo and Asisat Oshoala securing the team’s second straight win this year under Randy Waldrum.

Meanwhile, New Zealand, who are set to co-host the 2023 Women’s World Cup, also played out a 1-1 draw with Iceland at the Mardan Sports Complex.
