The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and representatives of the federal government team are presently locked in discussions at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Comrade Joe Ajaero led the NLC delegation, which arrived at the Presidential Villa at approximately 5:45 pm.
On Sunday, the NLC had boycotted a previous meeting with the government following President Bola Tinubu’s recent pronouncement, made during his May 29 inauguration, that “subsidy is gone.”
Last Wednesday, Organised Labour had previously met with the government team, but the meeting ended in an impasse, leading to its rescheduling for Sunday.
However, the NLC refused to attend the Sunday meeting, alleging that the government had surprised them with the new price template from the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), which fixed the pump price above N500.
They demanded that the government revert to the previous pump price before any meaningful negotiations could take place.
The government team present at the meeting includes the former governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole, the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of NNPCL, Mele Kyari, the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, Hon. James Faleke, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Kachollom Daju, among others.
