JUST IN: NLC President Ajaero Gives Update After Meeting with Tinubu over Subsidy Removal

The Organised Labour has described their discussions with President Bola Tinubu on petrol subsidy removal palliatives as “fruitful and productive.”

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that after the meeting, Joe Ajaero, national president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), said they thoroughly examined the proposed measures but that the concerns that sparked the protests persist.

He did not provide any assurance regarding the cancellation or continuation of the nationwide protests against the economic difficulties resulting from the removal of petrol subsidy.

Ajaero and his counterpart of the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), Festus Osifo, left the Villa 30 minutes after they arrived at 5:38 pm for the meeting.

Both labour leaders said they will provide updates to their executive committees, which will then deliberate on the ongoing protest.

This publication learnt that the NLC is also scheduled to hold its National Executive Committee (NEC) session on Thursday, during which all relevant matters will be addressed.

The protests against the removal of petrol subsidy began today. The protesters demand that the government reverse the decision, and the minimum wages of workers be reviewed, among others.
