Aloy Ejimakor, Special Counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), on Tuesday said that the next step following the no-show of the pro-Biafra group’s leader in court on Monday, is to inevitably secure his release.
The Department of State Services (DSS) failed to produce Nnamdi Kanu, for his scheduled trial at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday.
The trial was stalled not just because of Kanu’s absence from court, but also because the judges of the court began their vacation on Monday, the trial judge, Binta Nyako, said.
Mrs Nyako adjourned the case till October 21.
Earlier, the prosecuting lawyer, M. B Abubakar, informed the judge that Kanu’s absence might be due to “logistical” issues encountered by the Department of State Services (DSS), the agency holding him in custody.
Now, one of the major lawyers in Kanu’s defence team, Ejimakor, is optimistic they’ll triumph over the Nigerian government.
“To the multitudes asking me the way forward after the hearing yesterday, below is the answer:
“The very next step is to pursue the release of His Excellency from detention through the coordinated steps of the Legal Team in Nigeria & UK. We intend to succeed, sooner than later,” Ejimakor wrote on his known Twitter handle.”
The prominent separatist, who was granted bail in April 2017, fled the country after the invasion of his home in Afara-Ukwu, near Umuahia, Abia State, by the military in September of that year.
Kanu was rearrested and brought back to Nigeria in June, about four years after his trial on charges of treasonable felony was stalled due to his disappearance from the country.
The judge had on June 29 ordered Kanu to remain in SSS custody.
Some Nigerian lawyers will never stop at showing how ignorant they can be.Because they play omthe ignorance of their clients they make them believe they can perform miracle on the Court room. How on earth can a lawyer say someone facing very grivious charges like that of kanu will granted bail apart from the fact that he has once jumped bail.Well again this lawyer is questioning the intergrity of the judicial system in Nigeria Mr barrister don’t decisive yourself Bail is not possible for this man.I know the judicial system will leave above board in this case
.

Any Igbo leader or politician against this move is a funali slave.
The extra -ordinary,forceful and illegal rendition of Mazi NNAMDI KANU, a citizen/natioal of the Britain who is the indefatigable, selfless and enigmatic leader of the largest mass movement in the world-IPOB from Kenya by Kenya Government in collaboration with Nigerian and British Governments is anathema to ethos of democracy and tenets of of rule of law and is flagrant abuse of the fundanmental human rights of the suspect. It is very shameful act and unacceptable, well meaning citizens and concerned world bodies and governments of the world including UNO, EU, African union and Ecowas etc should decisively take strong steps and actions to call Nigerian Government to order and to adequately sanctions those involved in this sacrilege. Mazi NNAMDI KANU must not die in the DSS custody and must be released from illegal detention.
