Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, special counsel to the leader of the banned Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, on Wednesday, disclosed that he has sent a letter to the European Union (EU) in Nigeria.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Ejimakor’s letter is seeking the immediate intervention of the supranational political and economic union in ensuring the release of his client, to allow the IPOB leader to properly attend to his health.
Kanu, detained in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS), is being prosecuted on terrorism and treasonable felony charges before Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Although a judge of the Appeal Court had discharged Kanu, Nigerian officials insist he is ‘not acquitted’.
“Today, I sent a 6-page Letter with 4 Annexures to the European Union in Nigeria, seeking its urgent intervention in persuading the Government of Nigeria to do the RIGHT THING by complying with extant court/tribunal decisions & permit MNK his right to independent medical care,” Ejimakor said via his Twitter page with accompanying documents.
