JUST IN: Noble Laureate, Malala Visits Nigeria

Nobel Peace Prize winner, Malala Yousafzai, has arrived in Abuja for a series of engagements focused on girls’ education.

The young activist is in the country for meetings with the Board of Directors of the Malala Fund.

During the visit, Malala will interact with young Nigerian girls and education advocates supported by her foundation. She is also scheduled to meet with government officials and civil society leaders in a bid to accelerate progress.

According to Nankwat Dakum, the Fund’s Communication Manager, Nigeria remains central to Malala Fund’s new global strategy (2025–2030). Since 2014, the Fund has invested more than $8 million in local initiatives working to remove barriers to education.

“Nigeria is a priority country in Malala Fund’s global strategy (2025–2030),” Dakum noted, adding that Malala’s return comes at a critical time when stakeholders are renewing commitments to keep girls in school.

The organisation has also pledged $50 million globally under its new five-year plan, with a significant share earmarked for Nigeria. The initiative will strengthen local advocacy, boost education financing, and support girls, particularly those affected by early marriage, to complete 12 years of schooling.

Founded in 2013 by Malala and her father, the Malala Fund continues to champion free and safe education for every girl worldwide.

Recall that in 2021, Malala visited Nigeria where she engaged with state leaders and urged them to declare a state of emergency in the education sector.
