Hon. Daniel Ogah Ogazi, the Member Representing Kokona East and Leader of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, along with some members of the assembly, has set aside his speakership ambition.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Ogazi, in a press conference in Lafia, said that he has realised that his ambition has created opposition and hampered the state’s progress. He called on all Nasarawa citizens and supporters to prioritise the greater good of the state over individual interests.
Ogazi also highlighted the agreement reached by members of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly to re-inaugurate the house and conduct fresh elections for the Speakership position. He said this decision came after the State High Court of Lafia endorsed the proposal.
Ogazi apologised to his supporters for any disappointment caused by the crisis. He expressed his gratitude to all who supported and believed in his struggle. He emphasised that this struggle had strengthened democracy in the state and vowed to continue advocating for good governance.
“In light of this, I called on all Nasarawa citizens and supporters to prioritise the greater good of the state over individual interests.”
“I hereby set aside my Speakership ambition with an assurance to henceforth unite and work for the collective good and in the overall interest of the State,” Hon. Ogazi declared.
The press conference comes after two factional speakers emerged from the leadership crisis that rocked the Nasarawa State House of Assembly in June.
The immediate past speaker, Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi, emerged with 11 votes, and Daniel Ogah Ogazi, representing Kokona East constituency, emerged at his end with 13 votes. While Mr Abdullahi was elected during a sitting at the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ogah Ogazi emerged as speaker from the proceeding at the Assembly complex, both located along Shendam Road in Lafia.
