JUST IN: Ondo deputy speaker, majority leader resign, give reason

Abayomi Akinruntan, the Deputy Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly has announced his resignation.

Akinruntan announced his resignation from the deputy speaker position on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, alongside the Majority Leader of the state’s House of Assembly, Emmanuel Ogunmolasuyi.

The duo, both members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) resigned from their respective position during the plenary.

The former deputy speaker represents Ilaje Constituency 1, while Ogunmolasuyi represents Owo Constituency 1 in Ondo State.

At the plenary which was presided over by the Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Olamide Oladiji, the duo said their resignation was fueled by some political tussles within the state.

They also cited the power-sharing arrangement within the state as their major reason for resigning their positions.

As a matter of urgency, the leadership of the House has elected Ololade Gbegudu as the new  deputy speaker of the House of Assembly.

Gbegudu is the lawmaker who represents Okitipupa Constituency 2 in Ondo state.

Also, Olatunji Oshati has been appointed as the Majority Leader. He represents Ose State Constituency of Ondo State.
