Senate Chief Whip, Orji Uzor Kalu is set to resume at Senate on Tuesday after he was released from Kuje correctional facility in Abuja on Friday.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the former governor of Abia state has been enjoying all his entitlements, including salaries while in prison even without performing any legislative duty.
Kalu was jailed for 12-years in December 2019 over allegation of misappropriation of Abia’s state funds to the tune of N7.6 billion.
But the senator was released after the Supreme Court, last Friday, nullified the judgement of the Lagos State High Court that convicted him and his co-defendants, Slok Nigeria Ltd and a former Director of Finance of the Abia State Government House, Jones Udeogu.
However, a source close to Kalu said the lawmaker is most likely to resume at the Senate on Tuesday since he has been released from prison.
He reiterated Kalu’s statement that “he looked “forward to rejoining my colleagues in the Senate as soon as possible”.
