The All Progressives Congress (APC) has told Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, that its “plane is fit and ready to fly him,” in response to a recent comment the governor made about his own party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Governor Eno, while speaking at a constituency meeting on Tuesday in Ikot Akpankuk, Ukanafun Local Government Area, had compared the PDP to a faulty aircraft, saying it might not take him to his political destination.
Addressing the crowd, he said: “If you wanted to travel with Ibom Airline, and on the verge of taking off, it developed a fault that won’t enable it to fly, won’t you board the next available plane to take you to your destination?”
Many saw his remark as a signal that the governor might be considering switching to the APC, especially amid internal crises in the PDP and the recent defection of Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori.
Reacting to the governor’s statement, the APC, through its publicity secretary Felix Morka, released a statement encouraging Eno to make the move.
The APC’s statement reads: “The All Progressives Congress (APC) notes the musing of His Excellency, Umo Eno, Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom state, that likened the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to a faulty aeroplane, incapable of taking safely to the skies, creating an imperative to seek alternative flight onward.
“We couldn’t agree more that Plane PDP has become demonstrably inoperable and unsafe for travel.
“As safety and comfort are prerequisite conditions for flying, our great Party assures the Governor that Plane APC is fit and ready to fly His Excellency and entourage to their desired destination.
“Our pilots and crew are highly competent, welcoming, attentive to detail, and on standby to serve.
“We assure Governor Eno that a flight with us will be a mighty good ride to remember.”
