The Ondo State Government on Saturday canceled this year’s June 12 celebration earlier slated for Sunday 12th June, 2022.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that this is consequent upon the terror attack on worshipers at St. Francis Catholic Church, Owo, on Sunday 5th June 2022.
Per a statement signed by Richard Olatunde, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN), the government said the cancelation is to enable the entire people of Ondo State to mourn their loved ones who lost their lives in the horrific attack.
Governor Akeredolu had directed that all flags in the state be flown at half-mast for seven days in honour of the victims of the terror attack.
Meanwhile, playwright, Prof. Wole Soyinka was at the Governor’s office on a condolence visit over the terror attack in Owo.
He described the terror attack as a message, adding that “We are dealing with people who are obsessed with domination; it is in their blood, it is in their Creed, their psyche that they need to dominate.”
